Interesting time in London

London, UK

Yesterday I applied for jobs at Phones4u, Eurofone and Car Phone Warehouse. The manager at Eurofone seemed really interested, plus it"s just up my block so it would be a 5 minute walk to work, which in London is unheard of.

Afterward I went to a recruitment agency and they told me that all of their jobs were for secritaries, judging by the looks of all the slappers waiting there it looked more like an escort agency. I went to another recruitment centre and proclaimed that I was the fastest dish washer in the world, they set me up an interview for 10:30am on tuesday.

After that I went and returned some glasses I bought so that I would have some cash. I then went and met Signe at Leicester square. While waiting for her there was a drunken guy drinking cider and lipping off everyone that walked by, eventually he lipped off the wrong person and they were about to go at it. Things began to esculate but before any punches were thrown the police showed up. They talked to both men for about 5 minutes and left. 5 minutes later the drunken man was having his head kicked in on the pathment. 10 minutes after the fight began some other police showed up in a smart car (only 2 people can fit in a smart car) and broke up the fight. They left too with no one in hand cuffs. The homeless man still continued to lip people off in the street, by that time I had lunch with Signe, talked a bit, watched the man get beaten up and gave her the £9 I owed her.

Afterward I walked to Regents park and down to the Canal that connects Little Venice with Camden Locks. It was amazing, there were boats going by with relaxed passengers on board, on the banks were multi-million pound homes and in the distance you could see the top of London"s Central Mosque. It was unbelievable, I didn"t think such a place existed in London, I forgot I was here for a minute.

Afterword I went back to the hostel and hung out for a while. I talked to this one nice girl, Helen, from Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia. She"s a teacher here in London. She"s traveled quite a bit too, she"s been to Thailand, Morocco, Nigeria, Around europe and Australia. I asked her about her experiences in Islamic countries and how it felt for a white woman in such places. She said it wasn"t bad, the locals don"t expect foreigners to abide by islamic customs but some people snare in the street and some men call them gazel"s (kind of like saying sweet baby).

We eventually went for a pint down the road. We sat outside and a few doors down were a couple of 15 year olds looking on. We had our pints and a really nice chat and then headed back to the hostel. Their eyes started to look a bit more suspictious, then Helen said "You lot look like you want to nick my bag", They sat back and got really quite as we walked by and then laughed after we were down the road. We ended up walking up to regents park and back. Along the way there was another youth following us. He got up close so I tried to let him pass us be he didn"t, I then turned and looked at him like I knew what he was up to and he backed off.

This morning I sat and had breakfast with Helen. I think I"m going to try and relax and enjoy my day.
