New places in Germany and typical german thinking 10th November 2002 in Bremen, Germany

Yesterday I went walking through a part of Bremen I haven"t been through before. It had these incredible alleyways, some as narrow as 40cm"s. There were all these little collectors shops and restaurants hidden away. There was so much culture trapped away in these closed alley ways. I saw this one pub that I would describe as ?Well German?, so Anja and I went for a drink there during the evening.

The room was cozy, it was about 6M x 8M, the roof was a little low, everything was made of wood and there were photos of ships, transport ad"s from the 1900"s and portrats of leaders such as Wilhelm II, Friedrich VIII and Lenon. Friedrich is most famous for his quote ?Leiden lernen ohne zu klagen?, which means, learn to suffer without complaining.

In typical German hospitality we waited 20 minutes to get our first drinks. I got to try Duckstein, a red beer, it was quite nice.

Later on in the evening I saw two people with wooded sticked, top hats and small brown backpacks enter the pub. One of them came into our room and began speaking to people at their tables. The woman was called a ?Wanderfrau?. Basically these people spend seven years of their lives traveling the world learning their trade. In the process they live like hobos finding work and accomidation where ever posible, as well, during their 7 years they are not allowed to come within 150 kilometers of their homes. I thought to myself: When she comes over, if she can speak in English and tell me a nice story about her travels, I will give her a few Euro. She eventually came to our table, and spoke in English describing the journey she is on. I found it quite interesting and gave her a few Euro coins from my pocket.
