Wedding plans, East German Prostitutes and No Holidays 16th September 2003 in Hannover, Germany


Anja and I are aiming toward December 6th for our wedding, we"re still sorting out all the details but hopefully I will know about them soon. Anyone reading this is invited to the wedding which will probably take place in Germany.

I"m in one of the most disturbing German courses ever conceived. Beyond learning lots of German grammar my teacher uses the opportunity to express her views about the world around her, for instance: the mild mannered student from Palestine in my class might actually might be a terrorist, the Mexican girl drinks tequila and eats tacos for breakfast, the French girl, respectfully, drinks Cognac for breakfast, the Turk is hopeless when it comes to the German language and the 25 Russians in the room next to mine are all free loading off of our tax dollars and will never learn a word of German.

I learnt about the words "Kaufen" and "Verkaufer" (buying and seller) with a description of how to buy sex on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. At one point during this lesson I made the joke "Ich habe nur 40 Euro" and my teacher replied with "40 Euro, ok, Kommt"... which is something really disturbing to hear from a ~45 year old teacher. Today she told the class if we close the blinds then Allah can"t see all of the bad things that we do.

Believe it or not, these courses are really good and I have learnt a lot of German grammar in these past 2 weeks. I guess the teacher just has to do something to spice up the 6-year-old material for adults.

I"m still really jaded over having to give up my holidays to take these courses but hopefully I"ll get over that soon. If I would have known that I would only have one holiday day this year I would have tried to enjoy it a bit more.
