Good times in Calgary 17th April 2005 in Calgary, Canada

It’s really good to be back in Canada. My wife and I are enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. We’ve seen just about everything worth seeing in the 3 days since we’ve been back.

Our flight over was crap though. Air Canada is a terrible airline. I purposely tried to avoid flying with them but I only found out when I bought my tickets that BMI only sells tickets for Air Canada, they don’t actually fly here.

The air and cleanliness is second to none here. I got so used to dirty places and terrible smells everywhere I went that I forgot how nice it was here. I guess traveling gave me something to compare with.

The economy has really picked up. A lot of people I knew who weren’t working last time I was here are working now. Everything seems to be able half the price or less for what you would pay in the UK or a lot of other places in Europe.

Last night, we went out and had 3 main meals and 9 drinks for just over 20 quid.

My Mom, Brother, Anja and I went out to Banff yesterday. All the shops seem to be just gift shops for some reason, I always thought there was more substance to the place.

Anja and I are going to go out shopping today. There are a heap of new malls and shops in Calgary since the last time I was back. Trying to convince anyone that people here are much deeper and not materialistic is hard when everyone has an SUV or brand new car, huge TV’s and 2 or 3 new PC’s in their houses. One of my friends had a TV that was just under 7 feet diagonally and you could only sit about 6 feet back from it in the room it was in.

My wife said she would love to live here in Canada, I should have gotten her to sign some sort of contract before I take her up to Central Alberta and she changes her mind.
