Holiday in Tuckfors

Anja has been depressed the entire trip, even longer, it's hard to pin point when it started. I want to help her feel happier but she told me it is far more complex for me to simply "fix". My boss refuses to drive for an hour to go skiing and we have no other form of transportation beyond walking to get to the closes ski hill that rents skis. Today I wrote software and I went for 2 walks. The entire land is covered in snow; I walk along the road which is cleared at least once a day. The snow acts to block sound making it very silent. The sky was clear today so the sun shined on the snow covered forest highlighting beautiful colours. As I walked my thoughts were amplified and much clearer. I can see how such good computer programmers come from places like this. There is little around here except the lake and mountains that surround us, a few homes and the wild.

I'm trying to break the crap-new year's curse that I've had for the past few years. Today I wanted to visit Stockholm for new years. The next bus leaving will leave here at 6pm tomorrow and get into Stockholm at midnight. Rather than partying I will be traveling but I always enjoyed traveling, why not do it during new years, besides, I was on a flight last new years. The Lonely Planet Guide didn't list city codes so the number in there was useless. I ended up digging through a Swedish Magazine and looking for a company in Stockholm, from there I read their telephone number and figured out what the city code was (turned out to be 08). I called the hostel and booked a room. Anja isn't motivated to do anything right now but she decided to come anyway.

This evening we went over to Anja's parents house for another communal dinner. Afterward I came back and wrote software while listening to a Russian Brass Band CD I got in Copenhagen. I've gotten a lot more done in my code that I originally planned. I think I'll have a final build of one of my projects ready for testing before I leave for Canada. I reached a new personal high score in Tetris DX of 66,680, a far cry from my boss" ~330,000. It's about -25°C outside tonight.
