Russian Winter Festival
London, UK
Anja and I went to the Russian Winter Festival today. It's a culture sharing event held in Trafalgar Square this time of year. When we got there, there were a number of people handing out Russian language news papers, flags and other souvenirs. There was a Russian tourism ministry tent setup there and they gave away bags of stuff which included big coloured books on sights to see in Russia.
Most of the speeches were in English or in Russian first then in English. Santa Claus was the only one to only give the entirety of his speech in Russian.
They had some traditional dancing and music early on which I liked and then they went into Rock music which I don't like that much. One girl sang such loud high notes I was sure that most Londoners will be deaf in the morning.
Anja said that she wished she was Russian so she could have understood the Russian speeches and appreciated the community coming together on a different level. I enjoyed my afternoon.
