Afternoon in Denmark 21st October 2007 in Sonderborg, Denmark


Here are some pics from an afternoon we spent in Southern Denmark.

In other news, I'm now studying the Estonian language at UCL's School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies. The class is once a week but the language is a real uphill challange so I'm spending most nights studying material and doing homework. The class is 9 months long. It'll be interesting to see how far I can get with this.

Here is my homework from last week, I had to write a dialogue between two people meeting for the first time.

Triin: Tere päevast Mike!
Mark: Tervist, aga minu nimi ei ole Mike.

Triin: Kas tõesti? Vabandage palun, mis teie nimi siis on?
Mark: Minu nimi on Mark.

Triin: Kas teie räägite Eesti keel?
Mark: Jah.

Triin: Kas tohib teid sinatada?
Mark: Jah.

Triin: Saame tuttavaks. Kuidas läheb?
Mark: Tanan, Hästi. Aga sinul?
Triin: Aitäh, pole viga.

Triin: Kas sa oled ameeriklane?
Mark: Ei, ma olen kanadast. Kas sa oled eestlane?
Triin: Jah, ma olen eestlane.

Mark: Kas sa elad Tallinnas?
Triin: Ei, praegu ma elan Tartus, aga sündinud olen Viljandis.
Mark: Kus on Viljandi?
Triin: Viljandi asub Lõuna-Eestis.

Mark: Tore. Ma olen sündinud Vancouveris.
Kanada on ilus maa aga ma armastan Eestimaad.

Triin: Kas sa elad Tallinnas?
Mark: Ei, ma elan Londonis.

And... the English translation:

Triin: Good day Mike!
Mark: Hello, but my name isn't Mike.

Triin: Is that so? Sorry, please, what is your name?
Mark: My name is Mark.

Triin: Can you speak Estonian?
Mark: Yes.

Triin: Can I refer to you in an informal manor?
Mark: Sure.

Triin: Lets get aquatinted. How are you?
Mark: I'm well thank you, and yourself?
Triin: I'm ok.

Triin: Are you an American?
Mark: No, I'm Canadian. You're an Estonian, I take it?
Triin: Yeah, I'm Estonian.

Mark: Do you live in Tallinn?
Triin: No, I'm living in Tartu at the moment but I was born in Viljandi.
Mark: Where is Viljandi?
Triin: Viljandi is in Southern Estonia.

Mark: Cool. I was born in Vancouver. Canada is a beautiful country but I love Estonia.

Triin: Do you live in Tallinn?
Mark: No, I live in London.
