A week in Tuscany 10th May 2009 in Siena, Italy

We had a 14 hour journey from Tallinn via Copenhagen down to Tuscany in Italy on Monday. The town we eventually stayed in near (and I use this phrase loosely) Siena was really quiet on Monday night and not a lot of shops looked open or inviting. I noticed that everything was a bit expensive as well and I was starting to think that if we wanted a holiday in a small city where no one wanted to speak in English and everything was really pricey then we could have gone to Monaco instead.

Things turned around during the week and despite the town being a good 2 to 3 hour drive away from anything of interest, we managed a day out in Pisa and a lovely day at the beach in Principina a Mare.

We also managed a 50% success rate in finding restaurants where people could speak anything other than Italian. Anja and I can speak in 7 different languages between us so hats off to the Italians for not being remotely trained in any of these during all their years of schooling. Most restaurants looked as though every single member of staff and every customer were directly related.

I think the big pull to this region is the country side. You can spend a good few hours getting from point A to point B but the scenery along the way is breath taking. I hope my photos did this stunning landscape justice.
