Red Sea Resort

Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

I took a cab to the airport which must have had been the most broken vehicle I've ever driven in. The door wouldn't close properly and the seat belt felt as through it would cut me in two. The driver had a stack of photos to hand of various large-breasted plump white girls he'd driven around in the past. He seemed rather proud of his collection.

I met with Anja at the airport and after a lot of haggling and a non-eventful taxi ride to our resort, we finally started our holiday together. Cairo was a life experience (meaning that it was really smelly, stressful and unlikely to be repeated). This was the Savoy resort in Sharm El Sheikh and was a totally different world. There were more white people than Arabs. Most of the white people were Russian. Everything happened in gated neighbourhoods which have several road blocks and security checkpoints protecting them from Terrorists. Inside this gated world you had everything you need: restaurants, nightclubs, shops, camel rides at all hours, water fountains, ice skating, pools with friendly staff and the feeling that here is the place to relax and enjoy yourself without the threat of getting bored.

We did a few excursions during our stay. Among them, a snorkelling trip with a bunch of Russians. They saw our last name and put us down as being Russian on the manifesto but luckily one girl working there spoke English and almost remembered to repeat everything to us in English after the fact. Our fellow passengers spoke to us in Russian until we understood what they were on about. Everyone really looked like they were enjoying themselves and that this is something they do everyday.

We had a big balcony with a sofa attached to our hotel room and spent evenings watching movies on my laptop. We managed a whole day of just laying by the pool, swimming and reading and enjoying the sun. I could have had stayed there a few weeks easily.
