British Citizenship

Cambridge, UK

On April 19th I became a British Citizen. I've been waiting so long for this day that I can't believe it's finally arrived. The community leader who was handing out the certificates and medals to each of us being naturalised made comments such as "We sell more umbrellas than sun glasses in this country".

This new status gives me a chance to vote in European elections, work for MI6 if I want (and if they wanted me), live and work in 27 countries without a visa and allows me to keep my Canadian citizenship and passport. Countries like Russia and India offer cheaper visas to Canadians whereas countries like Jordan and Egypt offer cheaper visas to Brits so it'll be nice to have the choice of using either passport when applying.

Yesterday I went on a day trip with a few friends up to Cambridge. I've posted a few photos of our time there.
